Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Julian Araujo from Los Angeles Galaxy in the January transfer window, according to The Sunday People (print edition, page 54, January 10, 2021).

The report has claimed that Tottenham are facing competition for the 19-year-old USA international defender from Italian and European giants Juventus.

It has been further claimed that the right-back is valued at £5 million by MLS outfit Galaxy, and that any decision on the future of the youngster will probably be made in the summer of 2021.

Long-term signing

Matt Doherty and Serge Aurier are the two main right-backs at Tottenham, and both are very experienced.

Araujo is only 19 years of age, and there is a long way to go for him to become a regular for Spurs if he was to join them in January or in the summer of 2021.

It seems that the American is being viewed by Spurs as a long-term signing rather than someone to make an immediate impact.

Highly rated

Araujo is a very highly rated and is progressing well at Galaxy in MLS at the moment.

According to MLSSoccer.com, the youngster made 17 appearances in the league in 2020 and played 18 times in the league in 2019.

Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese raved about the teenager in March 2019 when he signed a contract with the first team.

As quoted on ESPN, Te Kloese said: “Julian is one of the best young defenders in Southern California and we’re thrilled that he’s chosen to begin his professional career with the LA Galaxy.

”When we have Academy players like Julian that are good enough for the first team, we will sign them to the first team.”
