Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has raved about Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, as quoted in The Mirror.
Zaha recently said on The Greatest Game podcast that Unai Emery wanted to sign him for Arsenal in the summer of 2019.
The Ivory Coast international winger added that although Emery made it clear to him that he wanted him to play for him at Arsenal, the North London club signed Nicolas Pepe instead.
Emery himself told The Guardian back in May 2020 that he wanted to bring Zaha to the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2019, but he was given winger Pepe instead.
Arteta told The Mirror about Zaha: “Well, undoubtedly he’s a player that has done exceptionally well in the Premier League.
“He has created a big name, because what he’s been able to do, sometimes just on his own, some individual actions that’s what people highlight all the time. But he’s a player that’s playing for Palace at the moment and I have nothing to comment.”
Big miss for Arsenal?
Zaha is one of the best attacking players in the Premier League, and the winger has done well for Palace over the years.
During the 2019-20 campaign, the former Manchester United man scored four goals and provided three assists in 37 league games, while so far this season, the 28-year-old has scored eight goals and provided two assists in 15 league matches, according to WhoScored.
Zaha is at the top of his game, and Arsenal do appear to have missed out on a class player.
