Rangers could go 22 points clear in the title race

Rangers could take a huge step towards the title today with victory at Pittodrie.
A win over Aberdeen would take them 22 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, albeit with Celtic having four games in hand.
Their rivals don’t play until tomorrow night, when Hibs are the visitors to Celtic Park.
Today’s fixture is a repeat of that which opened the season, with Ryan Kent’s goal enough to secure a 1-0 win for the visitors on that occasion.

Speaking ahead of the match, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard insisted his team are only focused on this game and not getting ahead of themselves.
As quoted by the official Rangers website, he said: “I’ve got total belief and confidence in my players, I always have had.
“We’ve just beat a very good team last week in Celtic, we’ve won 14 on the spin and we’re unbeaten in terms of the league, so that gives me confidence and belief that we are in a good place.
“But I know as well as anyone that form is only temporary, you’ve got to keep pushing and you’ve got to keep trying to max out, raise the bar and face every challenge that comes our way.

“It’s very important we stay in the now and we don’t live in the past or too far in the future.
“The now is a tough challenge against Aberdeen so we’re ready, we’ve prepared, we’ve had a bit of extra training time which has been helpful, and we reset and get ready to try and win three points.”
FORM
Rangers have won 20 of their 22 Premiership fixtures so far this season, and last dropped points in September’s 2-2 draw with Hibs at Easter Road.
Their last match saw them land a potentially fatal blow in the title race, winning 1-0 against Celtic at Ibrox.

Derek McInnes’ men lie in third place, having won three and drawn two in their last five league matches.
They were held to a 0-0 draw at Pittodrie by Dundee United last time out.
KICK-OFF
The match kicks off at 3pm on Sunday January 10.
