According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are ‘working’ to sign Emiliano Buendia and are ‘in contact’ with the Norwich playmaker’s agent.
In an interview with GiveMeSport, the transfer specialist said: ‘He is appreciated and they’re working with their scouts, going many miles to scout him.
‘They are in contact with the agent, but they are still waiting to sell players because if you don’t sell players in this market, it is impossible to sign new ones.’
By the sounds of it, Arsenal’s interest in the Argentine is serious.
Earlier in the window, David Ornstein revealed in The Athletic that Buendia is admired by Arsenal, and they have scouted him for more than 18 months.
However, it is also mentioned that the Gunners aren’t willing to meet Norwich’s £40 million valuation.
Having said that, it doesn’t sound as if that sum has put the north Londoners off completely, judging by Romano’s comments.
The Italian journalist adds that Arsenal need to sell players before they bring anyone to the Emirates.
In that respect, perhaps the likes of Mesut Ozil, Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi need to leave before Mikel Arteta gets anywhere in his hunt for Buendia.
In our view, he is worth being patient for.
The 24-year-old has scored seven goals, while also recording six assists, in 19 Championship games this season.
Also, as Ornstein mentions in The Athletic‘s coverage, Buendia had created more chances than any other player across Europe’s top five leagues at the time of writing.
He is very much in the mould of Santi Cazorla – the Gunners shouldn’t give up their pursuit of the Canaries maestro, in our view.
