According to Duncan Castles, Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Lille’s Sven Botman and wants him at Tottenham.
Castles made the interesting claim while speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast.
The journalist states that Lille’s Dutch defender fits the profile of centre-back Mourinho is looking for – that being a quick, left-footed option.
Botman – who cost Lille £9 million from Ajax – has taken to life in France like a duck to water.
Despite being just 20, he has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, as Lille sit third in Ligue 1.
Intriguingly, Castles has spoken about Botman on his podcast before, where he’s made some very interesting claims.
In an episode of The Transfer Window Podcast released on December 30th, Castles reveals what he’s heard about Botman from his centre-back partner Jose Fonte.
Apparently, the former Southampton and West Ham defender thinks his teammate is a ‘machine’ and also believes he’s better than some huge names.
Fonte has played alongside some fantastic defenders in his time, including Virgil van Dijk, Gabriel Magalhães, Pepe and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.
Castles says that, from what he understands about Fonte’s impression of Botman, the Portugal international believes he’s better than all of the aforementioned stars.
‘Fonte has played with an array of top-class centre-backs in his career including Virgil van Dijk, Toby Alderweireld, Pepe in the Portuguese national team and Gabriel last season who is now at Arsenal. From what I understand of Fonte’s impression of Botman, he thinks he’s the best of all of them.
‘He describes him as a machine and a man who doesn’t make mistakes.’
If true, that is unbelievably high praise from Fonte.
