Is The Blacklist cancelled? Fans have been waiting for season 8 episode 3, so let’s get the release schedule explained and look ahead.
Over the course of the 2010s, the number of great shows that made their way to screens was perhaps a little overwhelming for TV fanatics.
It was often difficult to keep up with the sheer volume of titles becoming available every month. With so many genres and bases covered, it was up to audiences to be rather picky, prioritising shows which appealed the most.
For many, The Blacklist has been such a show since it first premiered on NBC in 2013.
Created by Jon Bokenkamp, viewers have long praised the craftsmanship of this American crime thriller, spotlighting and championing performances from the likes of James Spader and Megan Boone.
It continued to impress with the release of season 8 episode 1 – titled ‘Roanoke’ – on November 13th 2020.
However, since episode 2 aired the following week, The Blacklist has been missing from its regular slot. Has it been cancelled?
Is The Blacklist cancelled?
- No, The Blacklist has not been cancelled. Here’s when it will be back on screens…
Season 8 episode 3 will premiere on Friday, January 22nd 2021 at 8/7c on NBC. The show simply went on hiatus after two episodes, but alas, it will return in no time.
The third episode is titled ‘16 Ounces’.
It’s uncertain how many episodes of The Blacklist season 8 there will be. Seasons 1-6 all contained 22 episodes, with the exception of season 3, which had one extra.
On the other hand, the previous season had 19, so perhaps season 8 will be a similarly shorter season.
Has The Blacklist been renewed for season 9?
As of yet, The Blacklist has not been renewed for season 9.
Considering we’re only two episodes into the new season, it’s arguably way too early to expect and concrete renewal news.
The series wasn’t renewed for season 8 until February 20th 2020, which was months after season 7 episode 10 aired; the season was on hiatus at the time, with episode 11 marking its return in March.
With this in mind, it’s likely that we can expect renewal news roughly halfway through the season.
As for potential concerns of cancellation down the line, it’s likely that NBC would already have announced if season 8 had been planned as the final season.
The Blacklist season 8 episode 3
As noted by the Business Times, episode 3 is set to follow up on the previous episode’s cliffhanger.
Liz Keen witnessed Raymond “Red” Reddington as he pulled the trigger on Katarina Rostova (Laila Robins), and we’re yet to see whether she actually died as a result.
We can expect Liz and Red to clash with gripping consequences in the forthcoming episodes, especially after she witnessed what he did to her mother.
It remains uncertain how Liz will react to the shooting specifically, but a TVLine interview with executive producer John Eisendrath confirms that the pair are going to war with one another.
John added that Liz will essentially do whatever it takes to discover the truth, making her one of Red’s “most formidable adversaries”.
