Speaking on his podcast, Phil Hay has claimed that Leeds United are still interested in Wigan Athletic youngster Sean McGurk.
The Whites famously raided Wigan for one of their bright young talents in the summer in the shape of Joe Gelhardt, but one deal the Whites couldn’t get over the line in the summer was a move for McGurk, who they were reportedly interested in.
Luckily, it seems as though the Whites may be set to revisit that one, with Hay saying that Leeds retain an interest in the 17-year-old.
“The incomings are quiet, and that was what we expected. I never rule out academy signings at Leeds, because they seem to be recruiting on that front all the time,” Hay said.
“McGurk, the youngster over at Wigan, again, that you mentioned is somebody Leeds are still interested in,” the journalist continued.
McGurk isn’t the type of player who is going to come in and drastically alter the course of Leeds’ season, after all, he’s only 17 years old.
Wigan seem to be keen to keep him, knocking back both Leeds and Spurs last year, but with the Whites having Premier League finances behind them, the Latics may find it tough to keep hold of their young star.
This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on going forward, and while Leeds may not make many signings this month, this looks as though it could be on the cards.
