Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City are among the Championship clubs lining up to sign Tyler Roberts from Leeds United this month, as reported by the Mail.
When it comes to Roberts, there is a nagging feeling that his undoubted promise is yet to turn into anything more substantial.
A £2.5 million investment in January 2018, the former West Brom youngster played a major role as Marcelo Bielsa guided the West Yorkshire giants back to the promised land last season; his quick feet, technical ability and positional intelligence catching the eye.
But the fact remains that, in 57 league games, Roberts has scored just seven times in Leeds colours. He has also been restricted to just two top-flight starts since Spain international Rodrigo Moreno arrived from Valencia.
Bielsa still believes Roberts could have a part to play as Leeds look to stave off a relegation dogfight, but that has not stopped a host of Championship clubs from showing an interest.
Cardiff, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston North End are all keen, as are a Derby side who have scored just 14 times in 22 matches (the lowest tally in the league).
“He’s a player with character and personality,” Bielsa said of Roberts, who can play as a number nine or in an advanced midfield role.
“He can express his virtues, skills. This is something very important for a young player. A young player and a serious player.”
