According to a report in The Athletic, Arsenal are set to lose Folarin Balogun as he edges closer to agreeing a pre-contract agreement with an unnamed foreign club.

Speculation has mounted over Balogun’s future in recent times, with the striker being linked with a move to Liverpool as of late, but it seems as though his future now lies abroad.

Unfortuantely for Arsenal, this means they won’t be receiving a decent fee for the forward.

Arsenal will still be owed a small amount of compensation as he’s under 24 years old, so the club he joins will have to cover a certain cost.

However, it won’t be a massive fee as foreign sides only have to pay a fixed tariff and training compensation.

Arsenal woudl have been to discuss fair compensation fee that at a tribunal if he’d joined another English club, with perhaps the most famous instance of this being Danny Ings’ transfer to Liverpool that eventually cost the Reds £8m, but in this instance, Arsenal won’t be due such a big fee.

This is certainly a surprising development as it was only on Thursday morning that Arteta claimed that Balogun wants to stay with the Gunners, but as ever, things move quickly in football and now it seems as though the striker is on his way out of the Emirates.

It remains to be seen which club Balogun has been negotiating with, but it’s a real shame to see that he’s going to be leaving the Gunners, especially for what is likely to be a small fee.
