According to Diario Extra in Ecuador, Everton are now emerging as a contender to sign Independiente del Valle midfielder Moises Caicedo.

It’s claimed that talk of a move to Manchester United has ultimately come to nothing, but Independiente del Valle are still open to a sale.

The main candidates for Caicedo’s signature are now considered to be Everton or an unnamed team playing in Major League Soccer.

The report notes that a deal is expected to be closed on Thursday, meaning Everton could be mere hours away from securing a deal.

Caicedo, 19, has emerged as one of the most wanted young midfielders around, earning a burgeoning reputation in his native Ecuador.

He already has four caps and one goal for Ecuador on the international stage, whilst he has bagged six goals and two assists in 31 games for Independiente del Valle.

Caicedo is an exciting box-to-box midfielder, and Tim Vickery has told Sky Sports that he thinks Caicedo is somewhat comparable to N’Golo Kante – but more effective going forward.

That would be some capture for Everton, but it may well be a tactic to draw United into closing a deal, meaning this would be one to keep tabs on.
