We’re only six days into the January transfer window but it looks like stories about Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil could dominate.

The 32-year-old playmaker is being linked with a move away from North London.

According to Football London, DC United in the MLS is a genuine opportunity, while Turkish media have also reported in recent days that Fenerbahce are interested.

Ozil hasn’t kicked a ball for Arsenal in a competitive game since March after being frozen out of Mikel Arteta’s plans in North London.

And with six months left on his contract, the Gunners must sell this month or risk losing him on a free in June.

There is always stuff written about Ozil leaving the Emirates Stadium, but this time it seems genuine and his agent confirmed to ESPN that leaving is a real possibility this month.

Dr Erkut Sogut said: “He might stay at Arsenal until the summer but he might go. Mesut’s priority is to stay but you never know in football, things can change very fast. For the moment, we are just checking all the options for January and the summer.”

With Emile Smith Rowe dazzling in the number 10 role at Arsenal these days, keeping Ozil seems rather pointless.

Well, it was pointless anyway if Arteta had no plans to bring him back into his Premier League and Europa League squad this month, but the 20-year-old’s form in recent weeks has definitely made the World Cup winner a little less needed.
