Rio Ferdinand has told his official YouTube channel that he wishes Manchester United signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang prior to his move to Arsenal.

The former centre-back dubbed the currently out-of-form striker as a ‘ridiculous’ finisher and admitted that he is stunned at what has happened to the Arsenal hitman.

Last season, amid Arsenal’s struggles, Aubameyang was seemingly the only player in his team putting fear into the oppositions eyes.

But his form has dropped in dramatic fashion since then and Ferdinand just cannot understand what has happened.

“That’s not the Aubameyang that I know and that I love,” said Ferdinand. “I don’t know how you are defending him [to an Arsenal fan]. This is typical Arsenal.

“The thing Arteta needs to do is to get him playing because he has got all these young exciting prospects all around him. That goal the other day that Saka scored was like a throwback, you just want Aubameyang there.

“I love Aubameyang. I think he’s an unbelievable player. I would love to have played with him in my team. I would love him, before he went to Arsenal, I would have loved Manchester Untied to have signed him. I think he’s a top, top [player]. Ridiculous finisher.

“What he did last season was unrivaled. Arsenal need him firing ASAP.”

The positive Arsenal fans can take is if Aubameyang can find his shooting boots then Mikel Arteta will have some serious attacking qualities to deal with.

Gabriel Martinelli has added excitement back to Arsenal’s forward line since his return from injury, Bukayo Saka has been his side’s best player, whilst Alexandre Lacazette cannot stop scoring, with Emile Smith-Rowe channelling his inner Kevin de Bruyne.

Whilst relegation was spoken about a number of weeks ago, the club can now start to look forward after three wins in three.
