Why didn’t Aisha return in Cobra Kai season 3? The actress addressed the exit on Instagram, so let’s get it explained.

The beloved show is back on Netflix!

The Karate Kid reboot series was originally streamed on YouTube but was picked up by the streaming service after the success of its first two seasons.

Fan-favourite Aisha was in all but one episode of the first two seasons and was introduced as a childhood friend of Samantha LaRusso. After she met Miguel, she joined Cobra Kai and became Johnny Lawrence’s second student.

However, Aisha actress Nichole Brown took to her Instagram Stories in September of 2019 to inform her followers that she would not be returning to Cobra Kai.

“Officially NOT in Season 3 of Cobra Kai…unfortunate, but thank you for the opportunity and time I had on the show,” she wrote.

Why didn’t Aisha return in Cobra Kai season 3?

  • Aisha’s exit was written into the script to aid the storyline, rather than any reasons associated with the actress’ career or personal life.

Republic World notes that Aisha’s parents relocated and moved their daughter to a private school in the wake of Cobra Kai’s huge fight with Miyagi-Do.

On the decision for Aisha to leave Cobra Kai, showrunner Josh Heald hinted that the exit could link to future storylines: “We have a long story to tell. We tend to look at the show in a very long view, where entrances and exits and impactful and important. Sometimes people need to exit to make their [re-entry] a little bit different and bigger.”

Nichole Brown may return to the Netflix show

Fellow showrunner Jon Hurwitz also spoke about the possibility of Aisha returning to Cobra Kai after series 3, saying to TV Line:

“We love Aisha and we love Nichole Brown. Certain characters we loved in season 1 didn’t appear at all in season 2, like Kyler, Yasmine and Louie. Before the season, we told Nichole the same thing, we told those actors: That just because a character doesn’t appear for a period of time that doesn’t mean they’ve left the universe, that they can’t return again. We love that character, and perhaps we’ll see her again one day.”
