Neco Williams has taken to Instagram after Liam Millar left Liverpool to join Charlton on loan for the rest of the season.
The 21-year-old joined Lee Bowyer’s side having just signed a new contract at Anfield, where he has risen through the academy.
After discovering that the Canada international had swapped Merseyside for south London, Williams – who earns £7,692-a-week – said: Good luck mate 🔥
Bowyer certainly seems excited to land the Canada Under-23 international.
In quotes provided by Charlton’s official website, the Addicks boss said: ‘He’s an exciting player, he wants to travel with the ball and he wants to go past people, that is what we need.’
The 21-year-old was enjoying a decent season in the Reds youth ranks until the south Londoners swooped to sign him.
In 14 appearances this season, the striker has netted five goals while also registering one assist.
Millar has previously gained experience of first-team football during a loan spell at Kilmarnock, where he scored twice in 36 appearances.
The forward may not command the attention of Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane at Anfield, although it’s nice to see Williams acknowledge his departure with a kind message.
It was only recently that the Welshman was in the academy alongside Millar on Merseyside.
While Williams has risen to become a first-teamer under Jurgen Klopp, he clearly hasn’t forgotten those he shared the journey with.
