We have finally entered a new year, and – while the next 12-months promise to be just as terrible – at least us trainers have an exciting event packed calendar for Pokémon Go in January to enjoy. Aside from the New Year’s event, there is an Unova Collection Challenge which has gone live a day prior to Niantic’s schedule. Here you’ll discover everything you must know about the Pokémon Go Unova Collection Challenge including how to get the Elite Collector Medal.
While the current region-focused event is something to look forward to, along with the upcoming emphasis on Sinnoh, January is also home to plenty Legendary raids and Mega Bosses. While Shiny Ho-Oh is available to battle right now, Genesect with Burn Drive will be available on the 5th, Heatran will appear on the 12th, and there will be a surprise on the 26th.
But, away from the forthcoming raids and emphasis on the Sinnoh region, below you’ll discover how to complete the Pokémon Go Unova Collection Challenge to get the Elite Collector Medal.
How to complete the Pokémon Go Unova Collection Challenge
You must catch the following creatures to complete the Pokémon Go Unova Collection Challenge:
- Lillipup (S)
- Snivy (S)
- Roggenrola (S)
- Ferroseed (S)
The Pokémon Go Unova Collection Challenge was intended to start on January 5th, but some people are reporting that it is live a day early.
You can collect the above creatures via the Wild where they will be appearing more frequently, and there are also event exclusive field research tasks which will reward encounters with the likes of Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, and Ferroseed.
In addition to appearing in the Wild and via field research, Tepig, Oshawott, and Snivy will also be appearing in one-star raids, meanwhile Herdier will appear in three-star.
Lastly, below you’ll find the creatures hatching from 5km Eggs:
- Roggenrola (S)
Pokémon Go Unova Collection Challenge rewards
The rewards for completing the Pokémon Go Unova Collection Challenge are 3,000 Stardust, five Rare Candies, and 30 Poké Balls.
However, in addition to the above, another reward for completing the Pokémon Go Unova Collection Challenge is an Elite Collector Medal.
You must collect all of the required creatures before 20:00 local time on January 10th in order to get the Medal.
Again, the event is said to have gone live a day prior to its official start, but – if you can’t access the challenge – know that it is officially scheduled for January 5th at 10:00 local time.
There are also varying reports on Reddit about collected creatures from the list not being ticked off when caught, so it might be best to wait until the official start time noted above before you go on a collecting spree.
