Paul Merson suggested on Sky Sports News (1:03pm, January 2, 2021) that Diego Costa would be a good signing for West Ham United in the January transfer window.

Costa is available on a free transfer at the moment, having recently terminated his contract at Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

The Spain international striker knows the Premier League well, having starred for Chelsea, and former Arsenal star Merson, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that he would be a good signing for West Ham.

Merson said about Costa and West Ham on Sky Sports News (1:03pm, January 2, 2021): “He would be great for West Ham, perfect for West Ham, absolutely perfect. The way West Ham play at the moment, he could be the missing link, he could be the missing link.”

The Englishman added: “I think he is a phenomenal football player, but he is a warrior as well on top of that.”

Diego Costa to West Ham United?

While West Ham are doing well at the moment, there is no doubt that manager David Moyes could do with a new striker.

Sebastien Haller scored seven goals in the Premier League last season and has found the back of the net just thrice so far this campaign, according to WhoScored.

Michail Antonio has emerged as a source for goals for West Ham, but he is not a natural striker.

Costa scored 20 goals in the Premier League for Chelsea in 2014-15 and 20 in 2016-17, according to WhoScored, and the 32-year-old would be a good signing for West Ham on a short-term deal on a free transfer.
