Virgil van Dijk looks to be making slow but steady progress on his return to action for Liverpool.

The big Dutch defender won’t play for the Reds again this season after picking up a long-term knee injury in the 2-2 draw at Everton in the middle of October.

By virtue of the fact that he placed second in the Ballon d’Or stakes 12 months ago, Van Dijk is a massive player for Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp’s side, who sit top of the Premier League table, have coped well.

He’s a monster of a player on the field for the Anfield outfit, who have won a Champions League and Premier League since bringing the former Southampton defender to Merseyside three years ago.

But his Liverpool team-mates still need him to be a monster away from the pitch now too, as he bids to recover as soon as possible from this knee problem.

A return this season is unlikely, but the 29-year-old uploaded footage of himself engaging in a rigourous cycle at the club’s Axa Training Centre on Tuesday night.
