Marcelo Bielsa has claimed that Jamie Shackleton has the ability to shock opponents in Leeds Live.

Shackleton came off the bench for Leeds last night during their 5-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.

The youngster was introduced just before the hour mark, when Mateusz Klich picked up an injury.

And Bielsa admits that he felt Shackleton took a while to get up to speed with the rest of his teammates, who were flying.

“Today, it took him a little longer to adapt to the game,” he said.

“The last game he was slightly more influential.

“Good organisation, energetic, he’s quick, he can surprise opponents, plays in a position which has many varieties as a box-to-box midfielder.

“He defends with Phillips and attacks with Pablo. Sometimes on the left or right-centre side in the same game. All those games at this level are not easy to resolve. Has character and takes on his responsibility.”

Even though Bielsa felt Shackleton took a while to adjust to the pace of the game, Leeds still went on to add another goal after their academy graduate came on, as they cruised to victory at the Hawthorns.

Shackleton could actually receive a run of starts now, if Klich’s injury problem does keep him out.

The prospect looks the most obvious replacement for the Polish international, who could be sidelined, with Leeds having a busy fixture schedule.

Leeds are next in action on Saturday, when they take on Tottenham Hotspur.
