When their sensational unbeaten run was ended in dramatic circumstances by St Mirren earlier this month, questions were asked as to how Rangers would respond.

16 points clear in the Premiership having won their Europa League group, the Ibrox side had encountered little adversity since the season began.

1-0 down with less than 20 minutes remaining against Motherwell three days later, the prospect of a Rangers slump looked possible.

By full-time, however, Rangers had secured a 3-1 win. They followed it with a comfortable 3-0 victory over St Johnstone in Perth before Saturday’s hard-fought 1-0 triumph against Hibs at Ibrox.

With Steven Gerrard’s men set to return to Paisley two weeks after that shock Betfred Cup exit, Steven Davis has highlighted the winning mentality that’s seen the league leaders bounce back.

Speaking at Tuesday’s Rangers press conference, the midfielder said: “It was a huge disappointment last time around.

“The most pleasing thing is the response has been good. This is a massive game for us.

“The pleasing thing for me, particularly in the Motherwell game, is the belief and the patience we showed to keep playing our game.

“For us as a group, the majority have been together for a number of seasons and we know each and every game we have to give our all otherwise we become unstuck.

“We have to draw on these negative experiences to help push us moving forward.

“The quality that we have throughout the squad is great, everyone is pushing for the jersey. We know there is still a lot of work to do and we have to remain focused and push each other.”

Rangers face St Mirren on Wednesday night in their final match of 2020, before kicking off 2021 with Saturday’s crucial derby at Ibrox.
