According to The Guardian and Sky Sports, Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum will soon make a decision on whether to stay at Anfield.

The Guardian state that Wijnaldum has asked for more time to decide on whether to sign a new Liverpool contract, promising that he will tell them of his decision before talking to any other clubs.

Sky add that Wijnaldum’s decision will come this week, with Liverpool set to learn their fate in a matter of days.

They add that Barcelona still want to sign Wijnaldum, with boss Ronald Koeman keen having worked together during their time with the Dutch national team.

Barcelona wanted Wijnaldum over the summer, but that didn’t happen. They can now sign him for free though, with Wijnaldum approaching the final six months of his deal at Anfield.

From January 1st, Wijnaldum will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a non-English club, playing right into Barcelona’s hands.

Jurgen Klopp admitted earlier this month that he wants to keep Wijnaldum at the club, so he will be waiting anxiously to found out the midfielder’s decision.

Liverpool paid £25million for Wijnaldum in 2016, but whilst losing him for free may be a disappointment if it happens, the Reds have certainly got their money’s worth out of a midfielder who has been vital for Klopp throughout his time on Merseyside.
