Rangers icon was blown away by the spectacular goal
Ally McCoist banished the Boxing Day blues for many with his joyous reaction to what will surely be the goal of the weekend.
The Rangers legend is known for his enthusiasm, and he was in his element on Sky Sports as he informed viewers of Will Vaulks’ spectactular strike for Cardiff City against Brentford.
Vaulks put the English Championship side 1-0 up deep into first-half injury time with a stunning effort from inside his own half.
McCoist’s reaction was almost as memorable as the goal itself.
After being teed up by Jeff Stelling, McCoist said: “Haha, Jeff, wait ’til you see it!
“It was worth waiting for. I had my script written, I was going to destroy the first half, but it’s worth the wait.
“Will Vaulks, watch this, a wee give-and-go with the centre-forward.
“Have some of this! Hahahaha! HOW DO YOU LIKE IT?
“Will Vaulks, one-nothing. It was well worth the wait Jeff.”
Despite Vaulks stealing the headlines, it was Brentford who emerged triumphant. The visitors came from behind to take a 3-1 lead, before Vaulks added a late second for the Bluebirds.
That result leaves Cardiff in 12th, while Brentford sit in fourth place.
McCoist will have been cheered by news of another victory for his former side, with Rangers maintaining their 16-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Hibs at Ibrox.
They face St Mirren in Paisley on Wednesday before playing host to Celtic in Saturday’s crucial derby.
