The release date for Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World season 2 part 2 has just been confirmed alongside the official trailer.

There may have been a four-year hiatus between season 1 and 2 of Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, but the anime has become a fan-favourite and one of the most popular ongoing series.

In this article, we breakdown the production schedule for Re:Zero season 2 and reveal what date part 2 will release on Crunchyroll!

Confusion over Re:Zero season 2…

There was some confusion amongst fans back in September about Re:Zero and the production schedule going forward.

The 13 episodes that released in the summer were part of the first cour, i.e. season 2 part 1.

Unfortunately, the situation wasn’t helped by news outlets reporting that the upcoming instalment of Re:Zero is season 3, instead of correctly labelling it as season 2 part 2.

Re:Zero season 2 part 2 release date…

  • Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World season 2 part 2 will release on January 6th, 2021.

We had known since September that the anime would return in early-2021.

However, the official release date has now been confirmed alongside the trailer for season 2 part 2.

You can check out the trailer below:

Why was season 2 split-cour?

An exact reason for why the second season of Re:Zero was split-cour was not officially given, but the likely reason is because of the coronavirus pandemic as well as giving a well-deserved break for the production team.

The second season had already been affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with the initial premiere delayed from April to July 2020 because of production complications.

It’s also becoming fairly common that these large seasons of popular anime to adopt this format, i.e. produce a 30+ episode season but take a mid-season hiatus.

Plus, it gives a well-deserved break to the production team who have given us a fantastic season so far.
