Liverpool have beaten Premier League rivals Manchester United to the signing of Celta Vigo starlet Stefan Bajcetic, as reported by Faro de Vigo.
Until today, it seemed only a matter of time before the teenage defender was following in the footsteps of Marc Jurado and Alvaro Fernandez by swapping Spanish football for Old Trafford.
But, according to reports emanating out of Galicia, Liverpool have snapped up the highly-rated Bajcetic from under the noses of their north west neighbours.
A representative from the Merseyside giants apparently travelled to Vigo this week in order to finalise the youngster’s transfer to the Premier League champions.
It is understood that Liverpool stepped on the accelerator after learning that post-Brexit rules would make it more difficult than ever to sign teenagers from abroad.
Bejcetic, then, is expected to put pen to paper with the Anfield outfit before January 1, with Celta set to receive a minimal compensation fee.
German talent-spotters RB Leipzig were also allegedly interested.

La Voz de Galicia backs up these claims, adding that Bejcetic could be confirmed as a Liverpool player in the very near future.
A number of academy graduates have played key roles for Liverpool during a gruelling 2020/21 campaign, including Rhys Williams, Nat Phillips, Caoimhin Kelleher and the increasingly-influential Curtis Jones.
Billy Koumetio and Leighton Clarkson also made their Champions League debuts during the 1-1 draw with Midtjylland in December.
