Dimitar Berbatov shared on his Instagram story that he wishes the ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara played for Manchester United.

Whilst Liverpool fans haven’t been able to see the £25 million [Sky Sports] technician at Anfield as much as they would have liked this season because of injuries, he did join them from Bayern Munich where he wowed on the European stage last term by helping them win the Champions League.

Both Liverpool and Manchester United dipped into the recent summer market for that progressive and forward-thinking midfielder – Thiago and Donny van de Beek – but for their own reasons, they have hardly featured since moving to England.

Berbatov, who was regarded as one of the best technicians to have played in the Premier League, hailed the qualities of Liverpool’s new conductor on Merseyside.

“Great player,” said Berbatov. “I like him a lot. I wish that he played for Manchester United.

“But, unfortunately, he is playing for Liverpool. But he’s unbelievable.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

Liverpool fans will be eager to see Thiago back in action because he will seriously elevate this high-flying Jurgen Klopp machine that is ripping up opposition even without some of their star men.

But it will mean that someone like Curtis Jones, who has been a star performer in recent weeks, will have to miss out.

However, it will please Klopp because it will show that he now has the much-needed squad depth that he has been craving for a number of seasons.
