Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest and Reading are keen to sign Lewis Morgan from Inter Miami in a potential £2 million January deal, as reported by the Mail.

With Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi also plying their trade at David Beckham’s MLS newcomers, who would have thought that Inter Miami’s ‘MVP’ would instead be a Greenock-born winger who struggled on loan at Sunderland as recently as last year?

So far, Morgan has been one of the few bright lights in a difficult start to top-flight football for The Herons, producing five goals and five assists in 20 matches.

The jet-heeled winger has caught the eye of goal-shy Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest, while promotion-chasing Reading are hoping to add an extra dash of firepower to an already in-form front line.

Chris Wilder’s blunt Blades have scored just eight times in 14 matches, while Forest failed to find the net in six successive games recently.

“The boy Lewis Morgan at St Mirren: quick, dynamic, can press, can run, can get at people,” Brendan Rodgers told the Sun a few years back, before signing the one-time Rangers prospect for his Celtic side.

“You’ve got the players, it’s how they are coached and how they are asked to play. At the highest possible level you have to be able to play football.”

Morgan struggled to really live up to expectations at Celtic, failing to add a much-needed ruthless streak to his raw pace; like another former Hoops forward now galloping down the channels at Bramall Lane, you could argue.

But Morgan has clearly benefited from sharing a dressing room with Higuain and co, playing the best football of his career on the other side of the pond.
