The original How The Grinch Stole Christmas isn’t on Freeview TV at all this festive season and people across the UK are outraged. So why isn’t it on? And what’s being shown instead?

Every year in the week before Christmas, all the best festive movies start showing on TV. Whether your favourite is Elf, Miracle on 34th Street or Home Alone, you can pretty much rely on seeing them all on the telly over the Christmas period without having to watch them on Netflix, Sky or Amazon Prime.

But one movie that isn’t on Freeview this year is The Grinch. Yes you heard that right, the 2000 Christmas classic How The Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey isn’t on TV at all this year. Christmas is cancelled!

Let’s explore exactly why it’s not on the telly this Christmas.

Why isn’t The Grinch on TV this year?

For as long as we can remember, The Grinch has always been on TV around Christmas, and for the last two years it’s actually hit the prime spot and been shown on Christmas Eve, but not this year.

The original Grinch won’t be on telly at all this year, and that’s because it’s being replaced by the new The Grinch film. In 2018, Universal Pictures released an animated version of the Dr. Seuss classic, and that’s the version that is being shown instead.

Most people can watch films on demand these days with subscriptions to Sky, Amazon Prime or Netflix, so they probably assume that people don’t care whether How The Grinch Stole Christmas is on TV or not. But how wrong they are!

Nothing beats watching a good old film with your family on Freeview at Christmas with a hot chocolate and mince pie in hand. Bring back the original Grinch!

Where can you watch How The Grinch Stole Christmas?

If the animated version of the film didn’t quite give you your Grinch fix and you need to watch the original this Christmas, there are a few places you can do so.

No, you don’t actually have to go out and buy the DVD. Do people even use DVD’s anymore?

If you’ve got Sky Movies, it’s available to watch on there. You can also buy the movie on Amazon Prime for £3.99.
