Whether it’s buying or selling, Liverpool’s Michael Edwards is known for extracting maximum value from transfer deals.

The Reds’ Director of Football has a reputation for getting the best possible deal from quite a lot of players.

And if one rumour is true, he might be lining up another absolute bargain for Liverpool.

The Athletic reported this week that Wolves are keen on signing Divock Origi in January and the report added that the Premier League champions could get as much as £20 million for him.

And if that happens, it’s a superb piece of business.

Origi is popular among Liverpool fans but it’s mainly related to a few acts of heroism – like against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final – rather than a sustained, lengthy period of being a useful player for Jurgen Klopp.

And the reality is that he has no future at Anfield.

The 25-year-old has managed only seven minutes of Premier League football this season and if Liverpool can get £20 million – double what they paid in 2014 – then it has to be considered a fine bit of business.

He is, more or less, a squad player and one who just isn’t going to play in major games this season, following Diogo Jota’s arrival from Wolves.

Somebody like Edwards can do a lot of good with that sort of money – Sadio Mane, for instance, only cost £10 million more – and picking up £20 million adds to the budget in a big way if injury-hit Liverpool feel like adding reinforcements during the winter window.
