Rangers fans have helped Live It Up return to the charts 35 years after its release

Rangers are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, but that’s not the only chart success they’ve pulled off this year.
Australian group Mental as Anything found themselves topping the iTunes chart with their song ‘Live It Up’, over 35 years after its initial release.
That was largely down to Rangers fans, who have adopted the song and its ‘Hey, yeah you with the sad face/come up to my place, and live it up’ refrain as an unofficial anthem since September’s 2-0 win over Celtic.

While Scottish football fans reviving chart classics is somewhat par for the course following November’s Tartan Army-driven revival of Baccara’s ‘Yes Sir, I Can Boogie’. it’s certainly come as something of a surprise to the band themselves.
In a video posted on Facebook, lead guitarist Reg Mombassa and bassist Peter ‘Yoga Dog’ O’Doherty thanked the Ibrox club’s supporters and spoke of their delight at the new chart success.
Mombassa said: “We’d just like to thank the Glasgow Rangers fans for liking our song.
“It’s pretty weird that it became a hit on the iTunes charts almost exactly a year after (original member, vocalist and keyboard/harmonica player) Greedy Smith died.
“Greedy wrote the song and it’s a shame he wasn’t around to see this because he would have been surprised and delighted.”
After O’Doherty thanked the Rangers supporters, Mombassa added: “Good luck with the upcoming matches.”
The next upcoming match for Rangers takes place tonight, as Steven Gerrard and his men travel to Paisley’s Simple Digital Arena for a Betfred Cup quarter-final encounter with St Mirren.
