Tottenham Hotspur have high hopes for Alfie Devine – and the midfielder showed a little grit in his game on Monday night.

Spurs’ Under-23’s were in action against Chelsea on Monday night, with the Blues running out 3-2 winners despite Spurs taking a 2-0 lead.

The real story from the game surrounds Devine though, as he was given a straight red card for a rash challenge on Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater.

Drinkwater reacted angrily, kicking out at the teenager as he too received his marching orders in what became a rather bad-tampered affair.

Chelsea and Spurs don’t exactly get on at the best of times, but seeing an experienced pro like Drinkwater retaliate after Devine’s challenge was quite the moment.

Devine’s teammate Kion Etete had his back and squared up to Drinkwater too before a host of players became involved in a brawl, with Petr Cech attempting to calm the situation.

Devine, 16, was snapped up from Wigan Athletic over the summer, and has even trained with the first team having impressed Tottenham coaches according to The Guardian.

The former Liverpool talent has made a name for himself now, maybe not in the way he would have wanted, but Jose Mourinho will surely be delighted with how Devine is putting himself about even at such a young age.
