Forster could return for a third spell at Celtic Park

Celtic have been handed a boost in their hopes of bringing Fraser Forster back to the club for a third spell.
Manager Neil Lennon was keen on extending the keeper’s stay at the club this summer, but the 32-year-old opted to return to his parent club Southampton.
That prompted Lennon to sign Vasilis Barkas for £5m, but the Greek custodian has failed to convince and has been replaced in recent weeks by Scott Bain and Conor Hazard.
Forster remains widely popular among the Celtic support, with his superb display against Rangers in last year’s Betfred Cup Final victory constituting one of the club’s greatest goalkeeping performances of recent years.

His return to St Mary’s has been a frustrating one, with manager Ralph Hasenhüttl preferring Alex McCarthy between the sticks. Forster returning to Glasgow again could be beneficial for all parties, and Hasenhüttl has offered Celtic fans some hope on that front by acknowledging the potential for transfer activity in January.
As quoted by The Herald, the Austrian said: “It seems rapid that the next transfer window comes – it seems like yesterday I spoke about the last one, which was closed a little bit later.
“I am never scared of any transfer window because this is the way we go. When we are performing well and other clubs are coming wanting to take our players and give you the money you want, you always discuss it.
“We are never a club at the end of the highest in Europe, we never will be. But we are also not a selling club. If it’s necessary we have to. If players do not extend their contracts and are free, they have to go, they go.”
