Emiliano Martinez’s wife – Mandinha Martinez – has shared on Instagram that their son has been accepted into Aston Villa’s academy.
Mandinha posted on her Instagram story of her son – Santi – walking into Villa Park with the caption ‘Santi was accepted at @AstonVilla Football Academy’.
She then posted a small clip of Martinez junior picking up and throwing mini bean bags into the back of the net inside a training complex, with the caption ‘practising a throw-in’.
Perhaps that is a sign that Santi will follow in his dad’s footsteps and become a goalkeeper one day because he has without a doubt the perfect role model to replicate.
Whilst Emi Martinez’s son was enjoying himself in B6, Villa’s man between the sticks was pulling off yet another heroic performance for Dean Smith’s side not far from Villa Park.
The boys in Claret and Blue recorded a 1-0 win at Wolves, with Martinez senior being one of the standout performers.
In recent seasons, Villa have made a number of signings at the club, and despite only being a few months in, the former Arsenal man is already heading towards the top of that list.
It does beg the question as to why Arsenal let him go so easily because he has been outstanding so far.
What’s even better for the Villa fans is that they have depth in quality in the goalkeeping department now because whilst Martinez is number one, a certain popular figure returning from injury in Tom Heaton is number two.
