Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has shared what he’s heard about Sheffield United’s pursuit of Manchester United’s left-footed defender Marcos Rojo.

The Blades certainly need a left-footed centre-half after losing Jack O’Connell to injury this season, and Rojo could be the answer to their prayers.

Rojo is of course an experienced international who has played in a World Cup final, so he may add a bit of quality to what has to be described as a struggling backline.

“Clubs have tried to sign him in previous windows, but Man United have always backed away from those deals because they didn’t get the fee they wanted, or were being asked to subsidise wages,” Castles said.

“They are again in a similar position in this window, and Rojo has been made available for transfer or loan. His agent has been working to try and get him a deal, but I’m told that the only offers he has at present are from Sheffield United, and one from the Championship in Reading.”

Castles would go on to give a further update on the situation.

“So far United have said no to Sheffield United, and Rojo is keen I’m told to go there because he wants to play football and that’s the best of the offers he has of present, and he’s pressuring the club to make a decision.”

The fact that Sheffield United have made an offer and Rojo is pressuring United to let him join the Blades is a good sign.

Of course, Chris Wilder’s side’s problems run a lot deeper than their defensive issues, but this is certainly a move in the right direction for the Yorkshire outfit if they can get this deal over the line.

All may seem bleak at Bramall Lane at the moment, but as things stand, they’re only six point away from safety, and a good January transfer window could give them a great chance of staying in the Premier League.
