Super Smash Bros Ultimate’s latest DLC fighter is none other than Sephiroth, the iconic villain from Final Fantasy VII, but when exactly can players start using the character?

2020 has been a good year for Sephiroth fans, as the beloved baddie also showed up in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Indeed, from the initial reveal trailer, it seems that the Smash Bros version of the character draws heavily on his redesign as seen in the game.

Sephiroth is the third fighter in Smash’s current Fighters Pass 2 batch of DLC, joining Steve from Minecraft and Min Min from ARMS. When exactly, though, will players get to play as him?

When will Sephiroth release in Smash Bros?

Sephiroth is set to release for all players who have purchased the Fighters Pass Vol 2 on December 22.

Anyone who has purchased the Fighters Pass Vol 2 and wishes to unlock Sephiroth early can take on the Sephiroth Challenge, which pits the player against a powerful boss fight version of Sephiroth for a one-on-one match.

Beating this boss fight will result in Sephiroth unlocking early for the player, and the character can then be used in any match.

How to get Sephiroth in Super Smash Bros Ultimate?

To get Sephiroth in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, you need to have purchased the Fighters Pass Vol 2 DLC pack. This costs $29.99 in the US and £26.99 in the UK.

The pack already comes with Minecraft characters and Min Min from Nintendo’s ARMS. In addition to Sephiroth, three more characters will be added at some point in 2021.

While Sephiroth may not be every fan’s top pick, his inclusion in Smash is likely to be popular with fans of Final Fantasy VII and its remake.
