Wolverhampton Wanderers hope to sell Patrick Cutrone in January with Valencia striker Maxi Gomez emerging as a target for the Premier League outfit, as reported by the Daily Mail.

After their first game without talismanic centre-forward Raul Jimenez, Wolves fans could be forgiven for counting down the days until the Mexico star is back in action.

Because Nuno Espirito Santo’s side lacked any sort of presence in attack during Sunday’s 4-0 thrashing at Liverpool. Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto struggled to influence the game without a classic centre-forward to play off.

So Gomez, a physical number nine in the Jimenez mould, would certainly be well received at Molineux.

The Mail suggests cash-strapped Valencia will look to sell their £40 million record signing in January with Wolves and Arsenal at the front of the queue.

Finding a buyer for Cutrone, then, would kill two birds with one stone.

The Italy international joined Wolves in a £19 million deal from AC Milan in 2019 but, after struggling to settle in England, has spent the past 11 months at Fiorentina.

La Viola will automatically trigger a £16 million purchase option in Cutrone’s contract when he makes his 26th start for the Serie A outfit.

It is no coincidence, however, that starts have dried up recently amid reports suggesting Fiorentina hope to cut ties with the 22-year-old in January.

“If a player is not happy to stay at Fiorentina, (he) can leave,” manager Cesare Prandelli told Football Italia when asked about Cutrone’s future.
