At 6:31am on December 8th, 2020 the first dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine was administered.
The first dose of the vaccine was given to 90-year-old Margaret Keenan at Coventry’s University Hospital.
The dose was the first of 800,000 to be administered in the UK over the coming weeks with the first wave of vaccines being given to over-80s as well as some health and care staff.
Who is Margaret Keenan?
Margaret Keenan is the first recipient of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine after it was approved by the UK medicines regulator, the MHRA, on December 2nd.
Margaret Keenan is currently 90 years old and has lived in Coventry for the past six decades according to Sky News.
However, Ms Keenan, who turns 91 next week, was actually born in Enniskillen in Northern Ireland.
Until just four years ago, Margaret Keenan had been working as a jewellery shop assistant but is now retired.
Following the first of two vaccine doses she will receive, Margaret Keenan described the vaccine to news outlets including BBC News as the “best early birthday present.”
