According to The Athletic, Leeds United hope that Robin Koch will not be on the sidelines for a long period of time.
Leeds have announced on their official website that Koch will undergo knee surgery in London on Tuesday.
The Premier League club have stated that against Chelsea at the weekend the Germany international central defender suffered further damage to the knee that he injured against Liverpool and will now undergo surgery.
The Athletic’s Phil Hay has reported that Leeds ‘are hopeful that Koch’s problem is not major’, and that the Whites will confirm a timescale after his operation today.
Blow for Leeds United
Koch joined Leeds in the summer of 2020 and has established himself as an important player for the Whites in defence.
The Germany international centre-back has been playing well, and injury to the 24-year-old will come as a blow for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
However, Leeds do have depth in defence. Diego Llorente will be expected to step up in the coming weeks, while Pascal Struijk is also an option.
Leeds will return to action on Friday evening when they take on West Ham United at Elland Road in the Premier League on Friday evening.
