Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford admits that he just wanted the criticism of him to stop when TalkSPORT questioned him before the season had even started, as per his comments to the Ornstein and Chapman show.

David O’Leary had been on the radio channel stating that Leeds needed to go out and sign a new number nine in the summer.

And Bamford fired back at a tweet which TalkSPORT put out about the interview.

At the time there was much talk about whether Bamford was good enough to lead the line for Leeds in the top flight.

And while the striker says that he does normally ignore criticism, he just couldn’t let that post slide.

“I try and ignore it as much as I can but I did reply to that TalkSPORT tweet because I thought ‘just shut up, you haven’t even seen me. Give me a chance’,” he said.

“It’s one of those things where you just have got to learn to deal with it.

“If at the end of the season I end up with a lot of goals and Leeds finish in a good position there’s still going to be someone out there who says something bad about me. They’ll still be something I can’t do.”

Bamford is quickly proving anyone who doubted his credentials to score in the top flight wrong.

The Leeds front man now has eight goals in his first 11 Premier League games, and scored against Chelsea in his last appearance.

Bamford’s game has gone to new heights this term, with the striker showing a level ruthlessness which hasn’t always been evident throughout his career.

And if Bamford continues to score at his current rate throughout the season then his critics will surely have to eat humble pie.
