Arsenal legend David Seaman feels that Mikel Arteta has completely wasted a player of Mesust Ozil’s talents.

The rookie Spanish coach made headlines in October after omitting Ozil from his Europa League and Premier League squad.

Many Arsenal fans slammed Arteta for freezing out the 32-year-old, who himself reacted on Twitter by claiming that he was ‘deeply disappointed’ by the decision.

Arteta insisted that the decision was down to ‘football reasons’ but the Gunners are struggling in a big way without some creativity from midfield.

The North Londoners have managed only 10 Premier League goals in as many games this season, sitting 14th in the table.

And Seaman believes that there’s been some behind-the-scenes drama between Arteta and the former Germany international, culminating in his exile.

He told The Target Men podcast: “I am surprised Arteta is choosing to leave out Mezut Ozil because he’s a player of quality. I feel something’s gone on personally between the two of them, because to leave him out, and on the money he’s on, is a big statement and for me it’s a bit of a waste, because he’s still a quality player.

“When you look at the Arsenal team, we’re crying out for a player like that, so why don’t you build your team around Ozil rather than just leaving him out in the field and letting him go.”

Arteta has had noble intentions with regards to freezing Ozil out of his plans at Arsenal.

But the reality is that the players disagreed with the decision and they’re sort of telling him in their individual performances.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored one Premier League goal since the Ozil news broke and he, along with other Arsenal stars, are more than likely frustrated that a team-mate of this quality is sitting at home every time they play.
