Selena: The Series makes its long-awaited debut on Netflix on December 4th, 2020.
The series, which stars Christian Serratos as the titular singer, details the life and struggles of Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla.
From her childhood and rise to fame and eventually to her tragic death, Selena: The Series promises to be essential viewing.
Where was Selena: The Series filmed?
- Selena: The Series was filmed in and around Tijuana, Baja California in Mexico.
Tijuana is located in the northern region of the Mexican state of Baja California and sits on the south side of the US-Mexico border, opposite the city of San Diego.
As well as Tijuana, filming is also understood to have taken place in Rosarito which is also in Baja California.
According to Fox40, the filming of Selena: The Series brought around 600 jobs to Tijuana, ranging from production assistants to catering.
Selena was actually from Texas
Despite the Netflix series filming in Tijuana in Baja California, Selena Quintanilla was actually born in the small Texas town of Lake Jackson in Brazoria County to an American Mexican father and a mother with Cherokee ancestry.
In 1970, the year before Selena was born, Lake Jackson had a population of just 13,376 according to the US Decennial Census.
As a result of the 1980 recession, Selena’s family then moved to Corpus Christi in Texas which is where the singer was later killed at the age of 23.
