Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with new centre backs ahead of the January transfer window, despite signing Joe Rodon in October.
The Welshman has added another option to Jose Mourinho’s defensive options, joining Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez.
Yet with Sanchez out of favour right now, Spurs may still be eyeing up other defensive recruits just in case the Colombian moves on.
A link emerged from Sky Sports on Tuesday, suggesting that Spurs remain keen on signing Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White.
White, 23, has impressed in the Premier League this term, and would be a fine signing for Spurs; he’s tall, quick, composed and talented on the ball, whilst having major potential for the future.
However, is a deal really viable? White signed a new deal with Brighton over the summer, which will leave the Seagulls in a strong position to demand big money.
Brighton rejected £25million from Leeds over the summer, and that was before he signed a new deal until 2024.
90Min claim that Spurs currently have a budget of around £15million for a new centre back, which is some way short of what Leeds offered for White back in August.
With that new contract sorted, Brighton are surely in a position to demand up to £50million for White, who is emerging as one of England’s top young centre backs.
Unless Sanchez can be sold on for big money, Spurs are unlikely to be in a position to splash the cash on White, meaning Jose Mourinho and co may need to look elsewhere.
