Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on Georginio Wijnaldum’s display in the Champions League win over Ajax yesterday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men secured top spot in Group D with a game to spare, thanks to Curtis Jones’ second-half winner after an error from Andre Onana.
While the academy graduate – who also hit the post – will grab the headlines, it was Wijnaldum who acted as the engine in midfield.
According to SofaScore, the Dutchman recorded four interceptions, one tackle and one clearance, in what was an industrial showing from the ex-Newcastle man.
Additionally, Wijnaldum – who earns £75,000-a-week at Anfield – completed 89% of his passes against Ajax, and lost possession just six times.

Amidst a midfield injury crisis which has robbed Liverpool of Naby Keita, Thiago, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and also Fabinho seeing as he’s moved to centre-back, the Reds No.5 has stepped up for Klopp.
Wijnaldum’s fitness levels are incredible.
He never gets injured, can run all game and sets the tempo for the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss’ preferred pressing system.

It is no wonder that Jones is thriving in midfield when he’s got the ever-present, ever-reliable Netherlands international alongside him in midfield doing the dirty work.
Let’s see what the Liverpool fans have been saying about his display…
