Liverpool’s links with Daryl Janmaat came and went in the blink of an eye.

In mid-November, those potentially season-ending injuries suffered by Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez might have had the Premier League champions tempted to dip into the free-agent pool.

But, with Joel Matip back and Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams stepping up to the plate, it seems the urge has passed.

It is nearly three weeks since TEAMtalk reported that Janmaat, a former Newcastle and Watford defender who can play at right-back and centre-half, was on the radar.

Fellow Dutch international Gini Wijnaldum had apparently spoken in glowing terms about the 31-year-old freebie, with regular right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold also wincing on the treatment table.

But Janmaat appears to have disappeared from view quicker than Jan Kromkamp on the red half of Merseyside.

Reports in his native Holland suggest that Janmaat could instead look to get his career back on track in familiar surroundings.

The 31-year-old started his professional career with ADO Den Haag back in 2007 and, according to Omroep West, he is now training with the Eredivisie strugglers as he weighs up his next move.

“The talks may be going on. He trains to get fit. He does that quite well,” new ADO coach Ruud Brood explained.

“It will be good to have such a player in the squad. He is very welcome from me.”

ADO Den Haag have the joint-worst defensive record in the Eredivisie, a humiliating 6-0 reverse to fellow strugglers Sparta Rotterdam recently helping take a miserable tally to 27 goals conceded in just 10 games.

It goes without saying that Janmaat, a former Premier League defender with 34 caps for the Dutch national team, would represent a massive coup for a club mired in the relegation swamp.
