Frederic Guilbert wants to fight for his place at Aston Villa and believes he has ‘unfinished business’ in Dean Smith’s plans, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Unfortunately for Guilbert, the Villa boss might see things a little differently.
A £3.5 million signing from Caen will always be remembered by supporters for his outstanding display in that dramatic EFL Cup semi-final triumph over Leicester City back in January.
But, in truth, performances like that have been few and far between from the swashbuckling Frenchman.
Guilbert is now behind Ahmed Elmohamady and summer recruit Matty Cash in the pecking order.
The 25-year-old has not been included in the matchday squad for any of Aston Villa’s Premier League matches, with his only action coming in cup competitions so far.
If the Birmingham Mail is to be believed, Guilbert has no plans to walk away and give up on his claret-and-blue career in the January transfer window.
The former France U21 international obviously feels that he still has a part to play.
With a packed fixture schedule likely to stretch Smith’s squad to its limits, don’t be surprised if Guilbert finds himself back in contention between now and the turn of the year.
