Newcastle United centre-back Jamaal Lascelles has raved about Liverpool forwards Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino on the Getting Messi podcast.
The Newcastle United defender has come up against the Liverpool attacking duo multiple times in his career.
And he says that it is noticeable just how intelligent their movement is, which makes them so difficult to play against.
“For me it’s the intelligence of the players. Every single player in the Premier League are fast, strong, sharp and physical. But there’s a difference in the intelligence. That’s what takes teams like City and Liverpool to a different level,” the Newcastle centre-back said.
“The intelligence of someone like a David Silva, Aguero, Salah or Firmino – they don’t even need physical attributes as they just know their role and know football.”
Firmino has actually faced some criticism over his lack of goals this season, but Lascelles words prove why Jurgen Klopp is such a big fan.
The Brazilian is an integral part of Liverpool’s system, and his movement can help bring others into play by offering them more space.
Lascelles does not have many happy memories against Liverpool, as it is a fixture the Magpies have badly struggled in over recent years.
Liverpool have won the last five meetings between the two sides, with Newcastle’s last win coming back in 2015.
