At one stage, it seemed that half the Premier League was being credited with an interest, with West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United and Southampton among the more prominently linked clubs.

But his chances of move to England appear to be fading by the week.

Emmanuel Dennis ended last term with nine goals in 33 games for Club Brugge – two of which he scored against Real Madrid and one against Manchester United.

But his tally for the current campaign stands at one in 10.

Dennis’s season was already off to a bad start, with the Nigerian telling HLN that a move to West Brom had collapsed due to issues relating to the structure of the deal.

By that stage, Sheffield United had already spent around £23 million on Rhian Brewster, while Southampton brought back Theo Walcott on loan from Everton.

And, earlier this month, a Belgian scout told Krant van West-Vlaanderen that “no Premier League club will pay £20 million for an attacker (who plays for) a dominant team and who has scored zero goals in his own league”.

But things appear to have gone from bad to worse this week, with Dennis left out of the Club Brugge squad to play Borussia Dortmund after he reacted angrily to not being allowed to take up his usual seat on the team bus, according to Het Laatste Nieuws.

Could the likes of West Brom, Sheffield United and Southampton now hope for a cheaper deal, or might they be put off entirely?

Only time will tell.
