Rio Ferdinand said on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE that Diogo Jota has been phenomenal for Liverpool.
The former Manchester United defender has been impressed by the performances of Jota for Liverpool since his move from Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2020.
Ferdinand has praised the defending Premier League champions’ recruitment team for bringing in the 23-year-old, and believes that the winger has hit the ground running at Anfield.
The Englishman said on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE: “The recruitment at Liverpool what they have done to get him so far what he has produced is fully justified.
“Not many people were sitting there going, ‘Jota, let’s get Jota’. He has come in and he is saying to Klopp, ‘You better start me. You can’t afford to drop me. I am banging in goals week in, week out’. And rightly so. That’s what you want at a top club.”
Ferdinand added: “He has been nothing short of a phenomenal signing.”
Jota has been superb for Liverpool so far this season and has made an immediate impact at the Reds.
According to WhoScored, the 23-year-old winger has scored four goals in seven Premier League matches and has scored four goals in three Champions League games so far this season.
Liverpool do have a brilliant front-three in Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, but Jota is making a strong claim to be part of the starting lineup on a regular basis.
Perhaps Firmino could drop a bit deeper and play in the ‘hole’ or maybe Jota could be deployed there by manager Jurgen Klopp to accomodate all four of the attacking players.
