Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they’d like to see Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum at the Emirates Stadium.

The Netherlands international – who has 62 caps for his country – finds himself out of contract at Anfield in June, and has so far failed to reach an agreement with the Reds over an extension.

Wijnaldum signed a five-year contract in the summer of 2016 when signing from Newcastle in a deal worth £25 million.

In that time, he has made exactly 200 appearances for the Merseysiders, while also winning the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

The 30-year-old has netted 19 goals for the Reds, while assisting 16 more.

If Arsenal were to land him on a free transfer this summer, then Mikel Arteta would be getting an absolute bargain.

Wijnaldum has gained vast experience since moving to England from PSV Eindhoven in 2015, while he can also operate effectively in a number of positions.

The Rotterdam-born midfielder tends to play as a No.6 for Jurgen Klopp, hence his far-from-prolific goal record across 200 games.

However, under Frank de Boer on the international stage, Wijnaldum is much more of a goal threat in a No.8 or No.10 role, scoring 15 goals in 62 appearances for the Netherlands.

Arsenal don’t really have a player like the Liverpool No.5.

Arteta has defensive roadblocks in Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny, and a creative midfielder in Dani Ceballos.

However, the former Manchester City coach doesn’t really have a midfield presence to tie it all together. Arteta is also seemingly after a new midfielder, having tried to sign Lyon’s Houssem Aouar over the summer according to France Football.

Wijnaldum could still sign a new contract at Anfield, although it remains to be seen what happens in those developments.

One supporter below believes that the Dutchman would cause problems in a midfield three of himself, Partey and Aouar, and it’s hard to argue.

If Arteta was able to bring the trio together at the Emirates, Arsenal would have a midfield possessing wonderful balance and a vast array of different attributes.

In our view, it would be unlikely that Liverpool allow Wijnaldum to join a Premier League rival. However, if that’s what the former Magpies man wants to do, then the Reds have no way of stopping him should he become a free agent.

According to the Mirror, Ronald Koeman is keen to bring his fellow Dutchman to Barcelona, after replacing Quique Setién at the Camp Nou.

However, the Spanish giants will need to sell players before they can buy the Liverpool ace, as La Liga is currently blocking them from adding to their eye-watering £510 million-a-year wage bill.

If they can shift a few players, then turning down the opportunity to reunite with his old Netherlands boss at a prestigious European giant might be too difficult for Wijnaldum to turn down, in our view.

However, should Barcelona fail to free up space in their squad, the former PSV Eindhoven man would be a fantastic addition to Arsenal’s squad if he decides to reject the opportunity to stay at Liverpool.
