According to The Sun, Manchester United now want to lure Everton’s Marcel Brands to Old Trafford in 2021.
It’s claimed that United are still looking to bring in a new director of football – a stance they’ve taken for what feels like years now.
They have yet to bring in anybody to solve their recruitment issues, but now appear to be keen on landing Brands as their new transfer chief.
The report states that Roma want Brands too given that his contract expires at the end of the season, but United are now rivalling them.
Friends close to Brands allegedly feel that it would be difficult for him to refuse the move to Old Trafford if an approach is made, so Everton may now be left sweating.
They landed a coup in 2018 by luring Brands from PSV Eindhoven, and his stock is now high after overseeing deals for James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure this past summer.
Add in that he also signed Lucas Digne and Richarlison, and United may well feel that he can be the man to take the club forward.
Not all of Brands’ signings have been hits though; Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes are squad players, Alex Iwobi has been disappointing, Moise Kean is out on loan at Paris Saint-Germain and Jean-Philippe Gbamin has barely been seen due to injury, so some United fans would be forgiven for some apprehension.
