Jose Enrique has stated on Instagram that Georginio Wijnaldum deserves a new contract at Liverpool.
The former Liverpool star made the comments following the Reds’ 3-0 win against Leicester City at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
Enrique has praised the Netherlands international for making a new record at the defending English champions, and believes that the 30-year-old midfielder deserves a new deal.
The Dutchman has been on the books of Liverpool since the summer of 2016 when he joined from Newcastle United for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £25 million.
According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the former Feyenoord and PSV star is out of contract at Liverpool in the summer of 2021.
Important player for Liverpool
Wijnaldum is a very important player for Liverpool and played his role in the Reds’ Premier League and Champions League successes over the past two seasons.
The Dutchman always gives a very good and solid performance, and it would make sense for the Reds to hand him a new contract.
According to WhoScored, Wijnaldum has made eight starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League so far this season, while during the 2019-20 campaign, he made 35 starts and two substitute appearances in the league for Liverpool.
