Tim Sherwood has told The Weekend Preview that James Milner could player in ‘any position’ on the pitch for Liverpool and still give his side a ‘7/10’.

These are testing times for the champions of England and Sherwood thinks a player of Milner’s ‘experience’ and ‘versatility’ is needed at this stage.

Before the international break, those in the Liverpool camp would have felt that the luck was going against them this season, so it begs the question as to how they feel now.

Joe Gomez is the latest long-term casualty in the injury stakes, whilst Mo Salah will be self-isolating after attending his brother’s wedding in Egypt, and Sherwood thinks this is where a player like Milner comes into play.

“These circumstances Liverpool find themselves in now is the reason why James Milner signed a new contract,” said Sherwood. “His experience and his versatility will get them through periods like this.

“You can put James Milner in any position on the pitch and he’ll give you 7/10. He also leads and galvanizes the players around him.

“Jurgen is a top manager, he will find a solution and they will keep the ball away from Leicester.”

Even with such problems for Liverpool this season, from the injuries to the goals conceded, they have still managed to keep in touch with the top of the table.

But this is where the real stuff starts because this heavy fixture load coming up, especially for those in Europe, will seriously test the under-belly of many sides.

Liverpool have proven for a number of seasons now that they are as tough as they come, but they had their strongest possible XI available during that time, so different questions will be asked now.
